Rescuing the Revolution Family Bus Tour
This is a special complementary program for members of The Friends of Washington Crossing Park (PA), Washington Crossing Park Association (NJ) and Princeton Battlefield Society.
This family program is designed for families of students age 8-13, though we are a little flexible within a year or two for siblings!
The tour begins at Washington Crossing Historic Park in PA, and ends at Princeton Battlefield State Park in NJ. Guests will spend the day retracing the events of December 25, 1776 to January 3rd, 1777, when George Washington’s army crossed the Delaware River and secured three victories in NJ, at the Battles of Trenton and Princeton.
Historical Interpreters will tell the remarkable story of these ten days that breathed new life into the Revolution that many thought was then on the verge of total failure. In Washington Crossing, PA visitors will learn about life in a Continental Army encampment and Washington’s daring crossing on Christmas Night 1776. In Washington Crossing, NJ students will learn about Washington's landing, the battles at Trenton and see real artifacts from the Swan Historical Foundation's Collection. Participants will also get to see a musket firing demonstration! At Princeton, students will join the American or British side and learn about the battle from different
perspectives.
All three stops will feature interactive activities and demonstrations! Participants will be immersed in the sights and sounds of some of the most important events in American history.
We ask that you pack a lunch for the bus!
